Everything you've wondered about Dissolve My Dough — how it works, what's inside, and how we ship it.

About Dissolve My Dough

What is Dissolve My Dough?

A plant-based, enzyme-powered cleaner built specifically to break down sticky dough, starch, and gluten residue. Spray, soak, or rub a pump onto a dough-coated bowl, hand or utensil — give it 30 seconds — and the dough lifts off without scrubbing.

How is it different from regular dish soap?

Dish soap is designed to dissolve grease and oil — it pushes starch around but doesn't break it down. Our formula uses lab-grade amylase enzymes that target starch and gluten directly, so dough actually digests off the surface rather than smearing.

How does it actually work?

Two things working together: soap nut powder provides natural saponins that lift residue from the surface, and amylase enzymes chemically cut the starch bonds that make dough so clingy. Together, they break dough down at the molecular level so it rinses away.

Who is it for?

Sourdough bakers, home cooks, pizza dough fans, professional bakers, and anyone tired of scrubbing dried dough off bowls, banneton baskets, dough hooks, or hands.

How to use it

How do I use Dissolve My Dough?

Add 1–2 pumps to a dough-covered bowl with a splash of warm water. Let it sit for 30 seconds (1–2 minutes for dried-on dough). Wipe or rinse — that's it.

For hands: pump directly onto wet hands and rub like soap.

How long does it take to work?

About 30 seconds for fresh dough. 1–2 minutes for dried-on residue. For severely caked-on dough left overnight, give it a full 5 minutes and apply a second pump.

Does it work on dried dough?

Yes — that's its specialty. Use 2× the amount and let it sit a bit longer (1–2 minutes). The enzymes break down even hardened, papery dough crusts.

Is it safe on my stand mixer bowl?

Yes. Safe on stainless steel, glass, ceramic, plastic, silicone, and wood. No bleach or abrasives that could scratch coated or anodised bowls.

Can I use it on my banneton (proving basket)?

No. Rattan and cane bannetons should always be cleaned dry — brush flour out with a stiff brush and air dry. Soaking ruins the basket and strips the flour seasoning that prevents dough from sticking. Use Dissolve My Dough on the bowl or dough hook instead.

Can I use it on my hands?

Absolutely. It's gentle enough for daily use and works the same on dough-covered hands as it does on bowls. Many bakers keep a bottle by the sink for exactly this.

How much should I use?

1 pump for a medium mixing bowl. 2 pumps for a 6-quart proving tub. A little goes a long way — the enzymes are concentrated.

Ingredients & safety

What's in it?

Soap nut powder (natural saponin surfactant), lab-grade amylase enzyme, xanthan gum (plant-derived thickener), glyceryl heptanoate (plant-derived solubilizer), coco-betaine (gentle coconut-derived cleanser), citric acid (pH balance), potassium sorbate (food-safe preservative), and water.

Is it plant-based and vegan?

Yes — 100% plant-based, no animal-derived ingredients or testing.

Is it cruelty-free?

Yes — certified cruelty-free through the Leaping Bunny program. Never tested on animals.

Does it have a fragrance?

No added fragrance. You'll notice a very subtle natural scent from the soap nut and enzymes themselves — nothing artificial.

Is it food-safe?

All ingredients are food-grade quality. While it's not meant to be eaten, residue rinses away cleanly and is safe to use on anything that contacts food.

Is it septic-safe and biodegradable?

Yes to both. The formula breaks down naturally, won't disrupt septic systems, and is fully biodegradable.

Will it clog my drain?

No — the cleaner itself rinses cleanly. But never pour dough chunks down the drain (with or without Dissolve My Dough) — dough swells with water and is a classic cause of blocked pipes. Always bin the loosened dough.

Bottles & packs

How long does one bottle last?

A regular home baker (1–2 bakes per week) gets 2–3 months out of an 8 oz / 237 ml bottle. Heavy bakers go through one a month.

What's the difference between the pack sizes?

All bottles are the same 8 oz / 237 ml size. The 2-pack saves about 10%, and the 3-pack saves about 15% per bottle compared to buying singles.
